Welcome to Piglet Music’s “Jazz Lick of the Week”.

Here we will post some nice jazz lines to try, and if you like them, add them to your “jazz vocabulary”.  We keep an archive of all previous Lick of the Week pages here.
Keep a regular eye on the page and you’ll find easy to difficult, and dixieland to mainstream to be bop lines, and we will aim to provide backing tracks to play them to.

For some more “in depth” jazz improv training, check out our Improv Books Here

But let’s get on with……….

This weeks lick(s) are from the major II V I.

This small chord progression is “Jazz 101”, i.e., the most important place to start with chord progressions I believe. In this edition I’ll explain why, as well as looking at a few licks over the progression, and then have you put them into the remainder of “Autumn Leaves”. (see Week #1 for the other half).

For the licks, chord changes to Autumn Leaves, and a more detailed description, click on the link appropriate for your instrument. Once you have your pdf and have had a read of it, use the following audio to play the lines to.

Bb Treble Instruments PDF
C Treble Instruments PDF
Eb Treble Instruments PDF
C Bass Instruments PDF

Example lines audio examples.
(pls excuse the audio- self engineered. I’ll work to improve on that in future!
